Launching a Cyber Security Course at SJHS
A wonderful new opportunity awaits SJHS students who are interested in expanding their knowledge of STEM fields. This summer, Ms. Green and Mr. Mobijohn participated in an intensive 3 week training program in a brand new Cyber Security curriculum developed by NYU Tandon School of Engineering. The curriculum, called CS4CS (Computer Science for Cyber Security) provides young women with training in the skills needed to enter the cyber security field at the university and professional levels.
Mr. Mobijohn is enthusiastic about launching a new Cyber Security class at SJHS, stating, “We are very excited about teaching this course and were personally selected by the director of the program to be one of 4 schools this year that would be able to experience this curriculum in action, while working alongside 48 other high schoolgirls who were learning the many aspects of Cyber Security.”
The course at St. Joseph’s is made possible through a generous donation of laptops from NYU Tandon to our school. Students enrolled in the course will be able to use these laptops throughout the year as they learn more about how computer science can be a tool for the protection of society through cyber security. In a field where women are heavily underrepresented, both NYU and SJHS hope to give young women an opportunity to consider this path for their careers.

What is CS4CS?
“CS4CS aims to help young women gain STEM skills and confidence, and to build the pipeline of young women entering cybersecurity — a high-paying field growing at ten times the rate of the overall job market, and one in which women are dramatically underrepresented. The United States and many other countries have a shortage of cybersecurity professionals, a situation that has been recognized as a major threat to national security.”
