High School Musical Brings Joy to SJHS Community
By Ethan Schlesser, Director
The students FINALLY got me to agree to select High School Musical as a production, after years of trying to avoid it. I have to say that I really enjoyed working on the show! This year’s musical cast were particularly dedicated and committed to working together and creating our fun and enthusiastic production. In particular, the passing of Mrs. Latham during our rehearsal period created a difficulty in emotion and schedule. It took a collective spirit and devotion to move forward with our production in honor of Mrs. Latham.
The show went on with the help of Mrs. Antonio to reschedule dates and make extra time and space available, and all the students coming to rehearse on weekends, staying afterschool, etc. — it was a full team/community effort to bring the show to life! Mrs. Barratt, who worked with the girls on dance choreography, also provided extra energy and pizzazz that helped everyone feel good about singing and dancing together.
It’s always satisfying when an ensemble works well together and truly enjoys being in the production, regardless of roles, parts, etc. This group loved being in the show, rehearsing, and performing live! It was a true joy to watch them bring High School Musical to life here at SJHS!
