OUTSIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR SJHS STUDENTS
Consider applying for some of these opportunities. They can provide you valuable training, work experience, and mentorship. You will see opportunities listed for the summer and others during the school year. Click on the link and begin to research and determine where your interests might lie. It is likely that many of these internships will be competitive to gain but that should not dissuade you from applying. Some will provide you with a stipend or even an hourly wage, others might not be funded but they can still provide good experience for your resume and your college applications.
If you have questions or there is follow-up required (transcripts, recommendations, etc.) speak with your Guidance Counselor for advice.
The Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office
The Summer High School Internship is a hands-on experience that pairs students with Assistant District Attorneys, offering an insider’s view of the inner working of one of the largest DA’s offices in the country. Applicants must be able to commit to the entire duration of the internship, which will run from July 8, 2019 through August 9, 2019, from 9am-4pm, Monday through Thursday, and 9am-12pm on Friday. Camp Cardiac & Camp Neuro
With a focus on both education and real world experience, Camp Cardiac provides students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the medical field. In addition, this 1-week summer day camp provides a foundation for heart healthy living with an emphasis on both diet and exercise. Although Camp Cardiac’s primary focus is on care and maintenance of the heart, it provides an excellent starting point for careers in all fields of medicine. Read More
Pace University’s Summer Scholars Institute
The summer program for ambitious high school junior and senior students looking to have an early college experience. Students will have the opportunity to reside on campus within the residence halls. Summer Science Academy – St. Francis College
This is a FREE two-week (Monday-Friday) summer program in which science and math are integrated with field trips in a warm, friendly setting, taught by St.
Francis College science professors. There will be DNA barcoding experiments and activities in our St. Francis College labs as well as field trips to places, such as the American Museum of Natural History, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the New York Aquarium, along with fishing and kayaking in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
